Antietam

on September 17,1862 America's bloodiest day in Maryland, it was a draw between the union and the confederacy but lee halts the invasion of Maryland. 12,410 troops in union died and 13,724 troops confederacy died ."My ramrod is wrenched from grasp as I am about to return it to its socket after loading. I look for it behind me, and the Lieutenant passes me another, pointing to my own, which lies bent and unfit for use across the face of a dead man." -Private George Kimball
